The EU social model is one of dialogue and action, and the EU in Bangladesh has been putting this into practice. In the last ten days Ambassador Miller and team have been meeting with Trade Unions, Employers, think tanks and Government.
This moment is pivotal. An ambitious reform supported by social partners will break through years of delay, help ensure ongoing duty- and quota-free access to the EU market, and help Bangladesh prepare for graduation. Not coincidentally, it should also prove to be a start at implementing the recommendations of the labour reform commission.
We look forward to progress by July that will strengthen workers’ rights and ultimately boost competitiveness. The EU – working in partnership with Bangladesh to build a fairer, safer and more inclusive work environment
