OIC to Award Special Prize “Peace and Coexistence” for Best Documentary Film at 26th FESPACO Edition

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will take part in the celebrations of the 26th edition of the Pan African Film and Television Festival (FESPACO), which will take place in Ouagadougou, capital of the Republic of Burkina Faso, from 23 February to 02 March 2019, under the theme “Memory and future of African cinemas”. This year also marks the 50-year-old Golden Jubilee of FESPACO.

The OIC General Secretariat will award its Special Prize called “The Peace and Coexistence Prize” to the best Documentary Film that would meet the award criteria defined by the OIC Jury and convey a message of peaceful coexistence which reinforces the ideal of living together in peace, harmony and concord. The OIC Special Prize for Cinema rewards the best documentary film production contributing to the Organization’s objectives of promoting cultural diversity as well as art and film production in its Member States and combating all forms and manifestations of intolerance, discrimination, and stereotypes against Islam and Muslims.

A meeting of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts of the OIC held on December 20, 2018 examined the terms and conditions of the OIC Special Prize which will reward the best film production at the 26th Edition of the Pan-African Festival for Cinema and Television FESPACO. In addition, the 13th Islamic Summit Conference and the 45th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers called for strengthening cultural cooperation among Member States in the projection of the cultural wealth of OIC countries.
