Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has called for the immediate implementation of a full ceasefire to protect the Palestinian people from genocide and the most brutal atrocities. He made this statement while delivering his speech today at an international conference held at the United Nations Headquarters on a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian crisis.
He stated that Israel has so far killed more than 58,000 Palestinians and continues its genocidal campaign. He called for those responsible for crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people to be brought to justice.
Reiterating Bangladesh’s unwavering support for an independent Palestinian state, the Foreign Affairs Adviser urged the United Nations and the international community to play an effective role in implementing the two-state solution—viewed as the only path to establishing lasting peace in the Middle East—through peaceful coexistence between the State of Israel and the State of Palestine.
Welcoming the Arab initiative for the reconstruction of Gaza, the Foreign Affairs Adviser said that Bangladesh is prepared to participate in the reconstruction process under the leadership of the United Nations. He also called for strong resistance against any attempt to obstruct the UN’s humanitarian aid operations in Gaza.
In the backdrop of Israel’s continued attacks on Gaza since October 2023, this three-day ministerial-level conference—titled “UN High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution”—has been jointly convened by France and Saudi Arabia. The conference aims to reaffirm the support of UN member states for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and to pave the way for a lasting solution. Delegations from 118 countries, including Bangladesh, are participating in the event.
