Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC celebrates first anniversary of July-August Uprising

An event was organized at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC today, Friday, July 25, 2025, to mark the first anniversary of the July-August Uprising, ‘July Beyond Borders’.

The July-August Uprising is a milestone in Bangladesh’s democracy and the just rights of the people. The July-August Uprising, which was a result of the unprecedented participation of students and the public, resulted in the fall of the Hasina government. At least 1400 students and the public were killed before fleeing. Bangladesh was freed from fascism in exchange for the blood of hundreds of martyrs. Posters and photographs of the movement and genocide were displayed at the Bangladesh Embassy Auditorium, highlighting the glorious days of the July-August Uprising. Documentaries made on the genocide were shown. Many of those who played an important role in the Bangladesh Uprising while living in the United States came to the embassy as guests and watched the stills and videos of the uprising.

Honorable members of the Bangladesh community, various professionals, expatriate Bangladeshis, and embassy officials and employees were present at the event.
