Bangladesh Embassy in Rome, Italy observed “Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day-2024” with due dignity. As part of the special program of the day, the national flag was officially lowered to half-mast on the morning of 21 February 2024 at the embassy premises.

On February 21, 2024, at 11 am, the embassy officials and employees were present at the event organized by the embassy on the embassy premises. At the beginning of the program, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of all the martyrs of the language movement and the liberation war. Ambassador Mr. Md. Monirul Islam in his speech expressed deep gratitude, respect, and respect to the martyrs who sacrificed themselves in the struggle to protect the existence and dignity of the mother tongue. He mentioned that given recognition as ‘International Mother Language Day’, this day plays a unique role in spreading the message of amity and harmony by showing respect to the languages and cultures of all the countries of the world.

Speeches of the President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister were readout on the occasion. In the next phase of the program, a special documentary produced by the Directorate of Films and Publications was screened on the occasion of the day. The program concluded with a prayer to pray for the souls of the language martyrs and the continued peace and prosperity of the country.

Earlier, on 21 February 2024 at 09:00 AM, wreath laying was organized at the permanent Shaheed Minar in Isaac Robin Park, Rome, Italy, under the initiative of the Bangladesh Embassy, Rome. Shaheed Minar was erected in Robin Park in 2011 with the help of the Italian government in an effort of the Bangladesh Embassy to honor of the language martyrs and to glorify International Mother Language Day. First, all the officers and employees of the embassy led by the ambassador paid tribute to the language martyrs by offering wreaths. Various social, cultural, and political organizations in Italy and a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis also paid their respects with flowers. Meanwhile, in his brief speech, the ambassador highlighted the significance of the day and thanked everyone concerned.
