Bangladesh High Commission celebrates Great Victory Day in Pakistan

Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad celebrated the 47th Anniversary of great Victory Day of Bangladesh on 16 December 2018 with great enthusiasm and festivity.

A day-long programme was organized at the Chancery premises with the participation of the expatriate Bangladesh community in Islamabad and the officers and staff members of the High Commission. The Chancery Building and premises were nicely adorned with miniature Bangladesh national flags, pictures of the Bir Sreshtho, victory day posters and other decorative items.

The morning session of the programme began with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag of Bangladesh by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan at the Chancery premises in presence of all the officers and staff members of the High Commission and representatives of Bangladesh expatriates.

The afternoon session began with the observance of one minute silence to pay homage to the memory of the martyrs of the War of Liberation and placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, released on the occasion, were read out by the officials of the Mission.

High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan, in his speech, paid rich tributes to the memories of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at whose call, inspiration and moral leadership people from all walks of life joined the War of Liberation. He expressed profound gratitude for the sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters, the martyrs, the wounded and the mothers & sisters during the War of Liberation. He termed the victory as the victory of moral force against military aggression, of justice against injustice and of human values against feudal mentality. He added that, pursuing a policy of people-oriented development model in the free environment of an independent country, Bangladesh has achieved remarkable development that is being acclaimed around the world. He expressed his confidence the pace of development will be further accelerated in the days to come. He called upon the audience to be imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation to attain the goal of transforming Bangladesh into a developed one under Vision 2041.

After the discussion, a special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the souls of Bangabandhu and the martyrs of the Liberation War as well as the continues peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

A video documentary on Liberation War and the glorious victory was screened.

Later, a cultural segment, participated by the officials of the High Commission, Bangladeshi children and expatriate Bangladeshis living in Islamabad, was organized.

The day-long programme was rounded off with a buffet lunch where various Bangladeshi delicacies were served.
