On 22nd September 2018 an exchange of view meeting was organized in the Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul to discuss about the welfare and problems of the Bangladeshi EPS workers working in Korea. This was the 2nd quarterly meeting arranged by the Embassy this year.
About 120 Bangladeshi EPS workers attended in this program chaired by the Ambassador Abida Islam. In her introductory speech, Ambassador expressed her thankfulness to the Bangladesh EPS workers for their significant contribution in the economy of Bangladesh. She discussed about different initiatives taken by Bangladesh Government for the socio-economic betterment of the expatriate workers and their family members. She also said that each EPS worker is an honorable representative of Bangladesh. She requested them to positively impress their employers with their positive behavior and sincerity and send the remittance through the banking channel. She mentioned that the dedication and positive behavior of the EPS workers will encourage the Korean employers for recruiting more Bangladeshi workers. She promised to provide all sorts of assistance and services to the EPS workers at any time.
First Secretary (Labour) delivered a presentation on the welfare activities of the Embassy for the EPS workers. Later, the EPS workers were asked to give their opinion on different issues including EPS data base, sending remittance through banking channel, technical training programs, introducing on-line education program through Open University, welfare fund for the EPS workers, health insurances, entrepreneurship training program and other issues. They sought the assistance of the Embassy in these regards. The Ambassador assured them that their problems and opinions will be considered positively through taking necessary actions. The EPS workers appreciated the welfare activities of the Embassy and expressed their hope that the Embassy will continue these activities in future.
After the open discussion, a cultural program was staged, which was enjoyed everyone. Finally, the guests were entertained with the traditional Bangladeshi foods.It is expected that, such exchange of the views will encourage the Bangladeshi EPS workers to discharge their duties in Korea as well as contribute more for the development of Bangladesh.
