Bangladesh-German Development Cooperation Negotiations 2018 completed with new commitments of EURO 285.3 million.

Bilateral Negotiations on Development Cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany were held in Dhaka on 19th of November 2018. The delegation of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was headed by Md. Khalilur Rahman Khan, Additional Secretary, Europe Wing, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance. The delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany was headed by Dr Wolfram Klein, Head of South Asia Division in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

 H.E. Peter Fahrenholtz, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh, made opening remarks. For the Government of Bangladesh, the welcome speech was delivered by Ms. Mahmuda Begum, Secretary-in-Charge, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance.

The negotiations took place in a friendly atmosphere of constructive cooperation. The two delegations had an open and fruitful exchange of views on ongoing projects and programmes in the field of Financial and Technical Cooperation (FC and TC) as well as on future development cooperation.

As a result of the negotiations, commitments for the following sectors of Bangladesh-German mutual Cooperation were made: Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Rule of Law and Good Governance, Adaptation to Climate Change in Urban Areas.

In addition, support to the management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forests was agreed.

During the Negotiations, Germany announced also further assistance in the amount of EURO 29 million to Rohingya and host communities.
