Indonesia will play an effective role under the regional and multilateral framework in resolving the Rohingya crisis , says Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Monday said her country will play a more effective role under regional and multilateral framework in resolving the Rohingya crisis.

The Indonesian minister made the assurance when she met Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Minister Marsudi also assured Bangladesh of extending her country’s support to the current government in all areas and hoped that the bilateral relations between the two countries will further be strengthened.

The two ministers expressed satisfaction as the discussion on preferential trade agreement between the two countries begins this month.

Both sides hoped that the trade deal would soon be finalised, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.

Dr Momen urged her Indonesian counterpart to expedite the process of getting approval from the Indonesian government over setting up a carrier monitoring system in Bangabandhu Satellite in Jakarta.

People from countries in the region will be able to avail of various satellite-centric facilities once the monitoring system becomes functional, according to the MoFA.

Earlier, Bangladesh sought continued support from Indonesia for early solution to the Rohingya crisis when Indonesian Foreign Minister Marsudi phoned his Bangladesh’s counterpart Dr Momen last month congratulating him on his appointment as the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh.
