Swedish delegation including Dr. Cecilia Ruthström-Ruin, Head of Department for Asia and the Pacific at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Charlotta Schlyter visited UNHCR Bangladesh registration site at the Rohingya Camp, Cox’s Bazar on 18 September 2019. In the joint project with the Government of Bangladesh more than 600 thousand refugees now issued with secure ID Card; for most first time they have proof of their ID.

In 2018, Sweden supported USD19,804,031.73 and added USD 31,106,133 extra to the strategy in Bangladesh to give support to the Rohingya and the, often poor, communities that are hosting refugees. The support gives refugees and host communities better access to care, housing, garbage disposal, water and sanitation as well as women’s centers and child-friendly places.
