Portugal’s Foreign Minister participates in the 52nd Session of the Human Rights Council at the United Nations in Geneva.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, will head the Portuguese Delegation to the 52nd Session of the Human Rights Council, on the 27th and 28th of February, to be held at the United Nations in Geneva.

Today the Minister will participate in the side event organized by the Mission of Ukraine to mark the 1st anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and will hold several bilateral meetings with counterparts to discuss issues of the international agenda related to human rights, as well as with the Director-General of the International Organization for Migrations, António Vitorino, and will attend the dinner of the Heads of Delegation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries.

On the second day of work, Minister João Gomes Cravinho will speak at the High-Level Panel on Death Penalty (9 AM *) and at the High-Level Segment of the Human Rights Council (11:35 AM – estimated time*). The Minister will also participate in a parallel session dedicated to the National Mechanisms for Reporting and Follow-up, which Portugal is co-organizing with Morocco and Paraguay. The day’s agenda also includes bilateral meetings with counterparts as well as with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, and with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
