The first Portuguese Diogo Ribeiro to become world champion in the 50-meter butterfly at the Aquatic World Championships.

Diogo Ribeiro only 19 years old has become the first Portuguese swimming world champion  In 22 seconds held in Doha, Qatar. There is no one better than him at swimming 50 meters butterfly.
The Portuguese swimmer is the new world champion in the 50-meter butterfly, a mark never achieved by any national swimmer – the 19-year-old had already been the first to win a medal, in 2023, with silver in Japan. Diogo Ribeiro finished the race in 22.97 seconds, beating Michael Andrew and Cameron McEvoy, representatives of swimming powers such as the United States and Australia.
Diogo Ribeiro became world champion in the 50-meter butterfly at the Aquatic World Championships.
